🍃 From Food Waste to Food Health: The Biogas Advantage

Food health and sustainability are becoming inseparable as the global food system faces rising waste, energy costs, and environmental pressures. Biogas is emerging as a powerful solution at the intersection of food health, waste management, and clean energy. Produced through the anaerobic digestion of organic materials such as food waste, agricultural residues, and kitchen scraps, biogas offers a circular approach that turns discarded food into valuable energy and nutrient-rich byproducts.

In food-related industries, biogas plays a dual role. First, it provides renewable energy for food processing, cold storage, and cooking, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions. Second, the digestion process creates digestate, an organic fertilizer rich in nutrients. When applied to farmland, this digestate improves soil health, enhances crop quality, and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers—contributing directly to healthier food production.

This peeks my curiosity! I’ve heard about clean and effective units you can have in your kitchen. As more and more PFAS (forever chemicals) are approved and regulations are rolled back, this would be a small way to help.
